Engine Repair in Dubai

From oil leaks and cooling faults to timing work — on the car, or out of it.

What this covers

Most engine work that reaches us starts as a smell, a light or a temperature gauge that climbs. We find the cause before quoting, because the cost of an oil leak and the cost of a head gasket differ by an order of magnitude.

Booked in for this? Owners often ask about electrical & electronics in Dubai, major & minor service at our Al Quoz workshop and our wheel alignment work at the same time — one visit covers all of it.

The work

Oil and coolant leaks

Traced to the actual source under pressure, not guessed from a stain.

Cooling and overheating

Thermostat, water pump, radiator and expansion tank tested individually.

Timing chains and belts

Replaced to specification, with tensioners and guides.

Overhaul

Head and bottom-end work where compression and leak-down tests call for it.

Questions

My car smells sweet after a drive — what is that?

Coolant, almost always. Worth booking quickly: overheating turns a cheap repair into an expensive one.

Do you do engine rebuilds?

Yes. We also tell you when a rebuild is not the economical answer for the car.

How do you quote engine work?

Diagnosis first, written estimate second, work only after you approve it.

How much does engine work cost in Dubai?

We quote engine work once the fault is traced, not before. Diagnostics are from AED 250 and that figure comes off the bill if you go ahead. What you get is an itemised estimate — parts and labour separately — and nothing is started until you approve it.

How long does engine work take?

Normally as long as the strip-down shows it needs, confirmed before we start. We book a slot rather than a queue, so the car is worked on when you bring it in. If the job turns out to need longer once it is apart, you hear the reason and the new date before we carry on.

Is the work covered by a warranty?

Yes — 6 months on parts and labour for work carried out in our own workshop in Al Quoz. Where a part carries its own manufacturer cover, that applies on top. The term goes into the estimate before you approve the job, not into the invoice afterwards.

Engine Repair in Dubai

Most engine work that reaches us begins as something small: a smell, a warning light, a temperature needle sitting higher than usual. The gap between those symptoms and a serious repair is often a matter of days rather than months, particularly here, where an engine has far less thermal margin than the same engine in a cooler climate. Bringing a car in while the symptom is still minor is the single largest factor in what the repair eventually costs.

Diagnosis precedes disassembly, always. A coolant loss with no visible leak can be a water pump, a crossover pipe, an expansion tank or a head gasket, and those four repairs differ by an order of magnitude in cost. Pressure testing cold and hot, a leak-down test and a compression test between them answer the question before anything is opened. Opening an engine to find out is the most expensive way to diagnose it.

Oil leaks are traced under pressure rather than judged from where the drip lands. Oil travels along seams and down the back of an engine, and the wet patch is frequently nowhere near the source. On V6 and V8 engines particularly, a leak that appears to be a rear main seal is often a cover gasket several inches away — a difference of a day’s labour and a gearbox removal.

Cooling is where we spend the most attention in this market. Thermostat, water pump, radiator, expansion tank, fans and their control are tested individually rather than replaced as a group. Replacing everything is the fastest way to make a symptom disappear and the most expensive, and it leaves the owner no wiser about what actually failed. Overheating is also the fault least worth postponing: it turns a moderate repair into a rebuild faster than anything else on the car.

Timing chains and belts are replaced to specification with tensioners and guides, not in isolation. A new belt on a worn tensioner buys a fraction of the intended interval. Where an engine is being opened for other reasons, we will tell you what is worth doing at the same time and what is simply upselling — the distinction matters and we would rather you trusted the answer.

Call or message with the symptom and when it appears: cold start, under load, in traffic or after a long run each point somewhere different. You get a written estimate before any work starts.

One last thing about second opinions. Cars arrive here having been quoted for an engine rebuild elsewhere, and a proportion of them do not need one. Compression and leak-down testing takes an afternoon and answers the question with numbers rather than opinion. If the rebuild is genuinely needed we will say so and quote it. If it is not, we will tell you that too, and show you the readings the conclusion rests on.
